Surgical and Nonsurgical Options for Uterine Myomas in Fertility Cases

Zaraq Khan

Friday, March 27
8:00 AM – 8:45 AM

 0.75 CME

Session Description:

Uterine myomas are the most common tumors of the female reproductive tract, with a cumulative incidence of around 70% in women of reproductive age. Previous literature highlights the success of surgical intervention and myomectomy for symptom relief; however, there is significant controversy regarding the impact of the uterine myomas on fertility and pregnancy outcomes. The disagreement is even more when it comes to intervention for uterine leiomyomas in otherwise asymptomatic women for improvement of fertility or reduction of pregnancy loss. The goal of this session is to highlight situations where surgical or nonsurgical interventions are necessary to enhance fertility. This session would also describe various surgical and nonsurgical treatment modalities for uterine myomas.

Session Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge regarding which type of fibroids should undergo treatments to enhance fertility.
  2. Highlight surgical and nonsurgical treatment modalities for uterine myomas.
  3. Compare efficacy of various forms of treatment modalities (surgical and non-surgical) for uterine myomas.
