Debate: Should All Women Under 30 Freeze Their Oocytes?

Session Description:

This panel will debate the pros and cons of elective oocyte freezing. Topics covered during the debate will include the optimal age at which to freeze oocytes, cost-effectiveness of oocyte freezing, efficacy of oocyte freezing, and who should pay for elective oocyte freezing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define the arguments that support a policy of elective egg freezing for women under 30 years old.
  2. Outline the potential medical and social consequences, including those unintended, of elective egg freezing < 30.
  3. Describe how to calculate the economics, specifically factors influencing cost-effectiveness, of elective egg freezing for women < 30.
  4. Differentiate the medical ethics around elective egg freezing, specifically with regards to the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice.
