Session Description:

As the transgender and gender non-conforming population continues to grow, so will their reproductive health needs. Reproductive Endocrinologists are uniquely poised to provide both gender-affirming hormones and fertility care to this population. In this lecture, an overview of gender-affirming hormone therapy will be provided, including terminology and ways to make practices more welcoming. Risks of gender-affirming hormones will also be reviewed, with a special focus on the most up-to-date knowledge about the effects of different hormone regimens on future fertility. Finally, strategies for decreasing dysphoria during ovarian stimulation and IVF procedures in transmasculine individuals will be discussed.

Session Objectives:

  1. Discuss proper terminology relating to transgender patients to their vocabulary and practice.
  2. Give a brief overview of gender-affirming hormone therapy.
  3. Describe what is known (and not known) about the effect of gender-affirming hormones on future reproductive capacity.
  4. Discuss special considerations for ART protocols and procedures in transmasculine individuals.
